EELA-2 (E-science grid facility for Europe and Latin America: and EPIKH (Exchange Programme to advance e-Infrastructure Know-How: announce the Grid School to be held in Queretaro, Mexico.

The second EELA-2 Grid School (E2GRIS-2) aims at increasing the number of scientific/industrial applications running on the EELA-2 production infrastructure. The School also aims at bringing new research groups to use the EELA-2 Grid resources as well as to diversity the application domains and scientific communities.

Important dead-lines

  • Application submission: September 1st, 2009
  • Notification of acceptance: September 7th, 2009
  • Registration (only for accepted candidates): Between September 7th and 16th, 2009
  • The school is mostly intended, but not restricted, for EELA-2 members.

    To fulfill the goal of this Grid School, the E2GRIS-2 program, based both on lectures and hands-on practices, will cover in-depth the main topics of Grid technology as well as the EELA-2 middleware technicalities.

    Good previous knowledge about Linux, for Linux applications, or Windows, for Windows applications, is mandatory, and knowledge about the gLite middleware or OurGrid, depending on which platform the application will run, is highly desirable. Candidates are strongly encouraged to take a look on the dissemination materials available at: and in order to gain confidence.

    To maximize the didactic impact and effectiveness, the number of applications to be ported will be limited to 7-8.

    All application candidatures must be submitted to the Selection Board of the School by a team of at most two persons before the 1st of September 2009. Each application team should fill the questionnaire available on the web at the URL describing the application they want to port on the EELA-2 e-Infrastructure. The Selection Board will rank both, applications and persons, for the final approval to be made by the EELA-2 Technical Board. At most one application per team will be selected.

    Accepted candidates will be notified by the 7th of September 2009 and invited to fill the registration form to participate in the school. The form will be available in the Second EELA-2 Grid School Web page:

  • EELA-2 accepted candidates will be financed by the project and have to commit to their participation in the whole event.
  • Applications of non EELA2 members will be evaluated case by case for possible financing.

  • Invitation Letter
    If you need an invitation letter, please complete the Invitation Letter Template. Such a letter is generally requested to get a visa.

    Please check with the appropriate consulate / embassy whether or not a visa is necessary to get in the country of the event. HLP will only purchase your travel ticket upon presentation of the visa issued. Do not forget that, the latter you obtain your visa, the latter your ticket will be bought by HLP, risking its price to exceed the maximum allowed reimbursement for travel expense.
